Hello, I am Liliana and I am a part of the 2023 Kid Governor's Cabinet! My platform is about literacy and improving access to books. I would like to update you on what I have been doing with my second point of my platform, which is to collect used books from kids to donate to various Connecticut charities!
Throughout the year, I have been collecting book donations from my school and other community members as part of my Read Enjoy And Donate (R.E.A.D.) campaign. The next step was to decide where to donate the books.
When creating my platforms 3 points, I wanted to help kids in our state. So, I decided to donate them to a local organization called New Haven Reads. New Haven Reads is a non-profit organization that does a lot to help families. One thing they do is give away free books for children to take home and keep! I thought it was a great fit for my platform.
When I got there to drop off my book donation, I saw employees tutoring other children and also people taking out books. Everyone there was so kind and took all of the books that had been donated. It was really cool!
In conclusion, donating those books to New Haven Reads was an incredible experience! I know that those books we collected will go to great families who need them. Thank you to everyone who helped me collect and donate these books!
